Aurelien Tchouameni Set to Start for Real Madrid After Injury, Says Boss Ancelotti

Updated: Dec 5, 2024

After being sidelined for five games due to an ankle sprain picked up during Madrid’s tough Champions League loss to AC Milan, the 24-year-old French star is fully recovered. Ancelotti confirmed the good news on Tuesday, just ahead of their clash against Athletic Club.

“He’s in great shape, trained well, and is ready to start from minute one,” said Ancelotti. “We’ll decide tomorrow where he fits best, but what matters is he’s back, and that’s a huge boost for the team.”

Tchouameni’s versatility as a defensive midfielder or even a center-back makes him a key player for Los Blancos, especially in set-piece situations where they’ve been struggling. His return adds much-needed depth to a squad that’s been hit hard by injuries this season.

Although Rodrygo recently returned in Madrid’s 2-0 win over Getafe, the team is still missing Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal due to ACL injuries, with David Alaba also working his way back to fitness. To add to their woes, Vinicius Junior is out for a few weeks with a hamstring issue.

Currently trailing Barcelona by just one point with a game in hand, Madrid heads to Bilbao with their eyes firmly set on the top of the table. Tchouameni’s comeback might just give them the edge they need!
